Derek Sivers on switching back to PHP after 2 years on Rails
I spent two years trying to make Rails do something it wasn’t meant to do, then realized my old abandoned language (PHP, in my case) would do just fine if approached with my new Rails-gained wisdom.
As I've said before, Rails deserves a lot of credit for moving the bar for web frameworks, but there's nothing magical there that ties the ideas in Rails to the Ruby language. For the curious, here is an updated Google Trends graph for "Ruby on Rails" to compare with the one in my article from last year:

I would agree, but in the case of PHP all is lost. There are certainly nice web frameworks in other languages like Django etc., but PHP is so horrible, and the community is so horrible, there is really nothing one should or can do about that.

PHP on Trax works just like Rails and you have freedom to customize it to do whatever you want! http://www.phpontrax.com
